Kirsten Marrs

Welcome to Mrs. Marrs' 6th/7th grade ELA webpage!

Daily things we do in class:

1. DGP: Daily Grammar Practice. It's like daily vitamins!  Every week the students get a new Bible verse and we "dissect" it throughout the week. On Mondays, we label the nouns (common and proper), pronouns, adverbs, adjectives, prepositions, and interjections. On Tuesdays, we label verbs (action, linking, and helping), prepositional phrases, objects of the preposition, the complement, the simple subject, and the complete predicate. On Wednesdays, we declare what type of sentence it is and it's purpose (simple or compound and declarative, imperative, exclamatory, or interrogative). On Thursdays, we rewrite the sentence fixing capitalizations and punctuation (the sentence goes up on Monday without capitalizations or punctuations). Friday is our big day! We diagram the sentences and turn that in for a quiz grade.

2. Daily SSR with your IRB: Every day we do Sustained Silent Reading and read their Independent Reading Books for at least 20 minutes. This is a good way to get your AR points and read at least the minumim of 20 recommended minutes daily.
